It is so hard to get comfortable on these rocks.

Another sunny day, so it was off down to the Sound to see what was happening.

Everybody else had the same idea, the car park was solid, but we eventually found a place to park.

After a quick wander around the sound, I was drawn to the old harbour to see if there were any jellyfish, but the tide was out, the harbour was dry and I saw what I thought was a dead seal.

Closer inspection revealed that one eyelid opening showed it was not dead, just sleeping in the sun, or trying to.

This was a common seal, smaller than the grey seals, and a lot fewer in numbers.

Common seals have a small cat like face whilst the grey seal have a big roman nose.

I think this is the first common seal I’ve seen on the island. Usually, they restrict themselves to the calf. Even though they a lot smaller, they still mix with the grey’s, then the size difference is obvious.

As I watched, this seal was moving around, trying different positions, but it appeared to be unable to achieve a comfortable position. If that was not bad enough, the incoming tide kept forcing this animal to move up the rocks to stay dry.

Even though this was a small seal, I would not like to meet it in the water, just look at the size of the claws!

Time it was left alone to finish its sleep.
